Hi.
I was a mess yesterday. You see, my orthopedist called yesterday at about 3:00 and left a message for me saying that my appointment for this Thursday had been cancelled because the doctor had been called in for a surgery. They took the liberty of rescheduling my appointment for me for August 4th.
That’s when I lost it.
You see, I hurt my ankle on July 2nd. During the evening on July 3rd, I realized I should probably think about seeing an orthopedist. I emailed my doctor that night, asking her opinion. Keep in mind, that was 4th of July weekend. They emailed me on Monday July 7th, saying they had an appointment for me to see my primary care doctor the next afternoon. I went to see her on July 8th. She told me I wasn’t allowed to stand, walk, exercise, or do anything until I got the ok from the orthopedist (specifically with a specialty in feet and ankles). My doctor’s office scheduled me to see an orthopedist in town, but the first available appointment was on July 17th, which they seemed kind of cranky about (my doctor’s office that is) they wanted me to be seen sooner- they were concerned.
So when I got the call yesterday, literally less than 48 hours before my appointment, saying I wouldn’t be seen until August 4th (another 18 days!)… I was a mess.
I called my dad to see if it was acceptable that I was a mess. He said absolutely. He wanted me to call my insurance company, and get a list of all orthopedic providers and call them all. I decided just to call my doctor’s office. I left a message (complete with my voice cracking- literally fighting back tears) explaining the situation, and asking for assistance. I then called the cancelling-orthopedist’s office. I told them that I could NOT wait until August 4th, and that I would either need to be seen by another provider in their practice (with a foot and ankle specialty) sooner than that, or that they would need to recommend someone else. They recommended someone else. (I did explain that I understood that surgery was obviously important, but that August 4th was what I was upset about.)
I called my doctor’s office again with the recommendation. And waited. And cried like a little baby. Seriously. I just want to be friggen MOBILE. I have never felt so lonely in my entire life.
My doctor’s office called me this morning at 9:30 saying they got me an appointment with a different doctor in a town about 30 minutes away, at a different hospital. The appointment is TOMORROW at 11:15! I am so excited.
Hopefully, I’ll get some good news. Keep your fingers crossed.
